Mirabilis jalapa (4 O'Clock Plant)

I was given this plant by dd's kindagarten Principal cos' she's also an avid gardener. They are growing pretty in the garden.

Some interesting notes about the medicinal uses of the plant

Here's another view of the Mirabilis photo taken during the cooler hours of the day at about
6 pm. More flowers were opened fully this time round and the sight was so pretty. I've planted them at each corner of seven planter beds. They will look a pretty sight when the flowers all open together in a row.

Mints

These are the mints that happened to grow in the CG. The one below is Spearmint.

This one below was given to me by Herb Lover, a GCS member and it's the Eau De Cologne Mint (EDC mint). It's supposed to have the fragrance of the Old Spice Eau de Cologne.

Rock Melon

I bought a Cantaloupe or Rock Melon from the supermarket to eat and found it pretty sweet. I dream of planting this in the CG and so tried to germinate a handful of the seeds which I saved from the rock melon I ate. I was surprised that they could germinate so easily. I have planted eight seedlings in the CG. I wonder how many can survive to bear fruits for me LOL.
Sending good vibes to the rock melon to grow, and grow :-) Stay tune for updates.

Alternanthera sessilis ( Sessile Joyweed)

This is a lovely planter bed of red Joyweed. I understand that the leaves are picked and then boiled and drunk as tea to improve blood circulation, as well as relieve high blood sugar and cholestrol.

Since the weeds form a very nice planter bed cover, I decided to jazz it up by planting French beans within the planter. My intention was to let the bean plants run up the trellis that I built to break the monotony of the low level weedy plant. Let's hope that the beans can grow without the weeds killing and strangling them.

Update 25/03/09
The French beans can't grow well with these weeds in this way. Have to give up the idea for the time being.

Moon Vine

I bought a dollar worth of Moon vine seeds and tried germinating them. Out of the four, only two managed to germinate and grow till true leaves are formed. The seed leaves are really huge when compared to those that I've been handling. One of them has been planted next to the fence of the CG. This vine is supposed to bloom beautiful white flowers that give off a lovely fragrance. I'm looking forward to this as I usually work in the garden in the early evenings.

Here's the pics of the Moon Vine seedlings planted near the fence of the CG. Sending good vibes for them to grow and grow enough to cover a section of the fence and then bloom the beautiful and fragrant flowers.

Roselle

I got the seeds from Wisteria and germinated them and planted them this way thinking that they are climbers. I got feedback that they can grow to be rather large plants and are not climbers LOL .Now I've planted them in another part of the garden. Will update at a later date.

Update 21/3/09
Here's where the roselles are planted now and they are doing quite well cos' I see they have red stems now. That means they are getting enough sunlight for them to grow. In fact when I checked on them recently two of the plantlets seem to be fruiting and another one has a flower bud blooming.
