Longan Fruits

Oh yes, the tree is fruiting but we in the CG have yet to taste them because ..... the bats always get to them first ..... HAIZ! Now we are looking into how to protect the fruits from the bats. Maybe try to cover them with plastic bags or to cover the whole tree with a netting ... LOL



The batch of longans below were protected by a cloth cover by a CGer and we managed to get the fruits intact. One of the very rare branches with fruits intact.

Star Fruit Bushes

We have two such bushes in the CG and they have fruited quite a number of times.
The fruits are not the large type we get from the supermarket The bush is relatively maintenance free and I always see them flowering. But not all flowers will turn to fruits.

Custard Apple Tree

This was planted in Nov. 2008 but it was under insect attack for a couple of months. Now it is in recovery mode as new leaves are formed. I find the tree grows very slowly and yes there is a fruit buy it is hard and it seems to take forever to ripen .... Haiz! Now someone has brought in another custard apple plantlet. Looks like it's going to be a long wait again.

Pomegranate Tree's a Fruiting

This was planted about one and a half year ago. Trimmed the leaves and branches a couple of times and I think my neighbour did add some fruiting fertilizer recently.

Flowering Longan Tree

I have been wondering for the longest time how to get the tree to flower and fruit. There was a thread on GCS on getting fruit trees to flower and some of the suggestions were pretty hilarious.

About a month back I found the tree sort of messy and just trimmed off some branches and leaves. I just poured some garbage enzyme around the ground where the stem grows. With the rains recently, I happened to check on the tree again and realized that it has flowers. Oh ... such happiness and I realized that I don't need to wait for the tree to grow two stories high before I can get flowers and then fruits. On examining the leaves of the tree .... I think it looks like the Ping Pong Longan Tree ..... which means this tree is going to give the CG lots of fruits throughout the year .... Oh such happiness again!

Avocado Tree

This tree was grown from a seed in Taiwan. It was planted into the ground last Nov. I heard that an avocado tree can grow huge in Singapore but it is difficult to fruit. So now how? Anyone can advise what I can do with this tree to make it fruit? Maybe this is one in a thousand chance? Hoping against all hope? Someone can give me hope?

Lemon Tree

This is a lemon tree and I thought lemon trees can't grow here. I even got a small lemon from this plant but then that's it, no more fruits nor flowers. It's growing vegetatively now. What do I do to get it to fruit?

Noni Tree

Another one planted last Nov. and the tree has fruits. A tree that is maintainence free is an easy tree to keep but I heard that the fruits taste terrible eventhough it has wonderful medicinal properties. So anyone wants to try to eat the fruits?

Kedongdong Tree

This tree fruits quite easily without us doing anything to it. Ever since it was planted last Nov. I only poured chicken dung on it once. The only thing that is bothering me is that the branches seem to be bending over. They are not weak branches though. And no one in this garden seems to want to eat the fruits?

Longan Tree

This is the common grafted longan tree planted in Nov.2008. This tree has to grow ten to fifteen feet tall before it will fruit according to some feedback I got from the GCS forum. This will take at least two to three years for it to grow depending on the kind of ground it's planted in. Now we are in for the wait. So meanwhile, we'll schedule it for the occasional prune and chicken dung feed for the next 2 years ... :-)

Pomelo Tree

This was planted last Nov. and that single fruit has been hanging there since .... LOL
I suppose a single fruit was too precious to harvest. I found out that I need to prune and fertilise this plant for it to fruit. OK ... will need to do that soon.
