New Mirabilis Row

Two months ago, I did a hard pruning for the pink Mirabilis shrubs in the CG and also changed the color of the flowers by replanting the planter beds with the three colors. And now I have the white, the yellow and orange flowers all blooming at the same time .... in between the pink Mirabilis shrubs. A sight to behold when they bloom in the evenings . Somehow the pic here doesn't do the Mirabilis blooms justice. It's better to see them for yourself :-)

Yellow Mirabilis

Here's the yellow Mirabilis .... quite a number of the flowers have got pink markings on the petals. Now I'm waiting eagerly for them to seed.

Dual Color Mirabilis and Orange Ones Too.

This is what I found one morning on the planter bed where I am growing the yellow mirabilis. A bicolor flower due to cross pollination of two different colors or is it something else. Even the red mirabilis flower is a new color too cos' I remember I didn't plant any of this color. So does this mean the pink and yellow cross to get this new reddish color? I was actually germinating the yellow and orange ones on this planter bed. A couple of days later I found the yellow flowers blooming. Will add in the pic later.

White Mirabilis

This was found outside the garden gate where my neighbour planted the extra Mirabils. I thought I germinated some orange ones and yellow ones ..... I can't recall how the white got there. It could be the GCS member who gave me some yellow Mirabilis seeds to germinate also gave me a white seed without knowing. This is indeed a nice surprise.

Pink Mirabilis Row Attention!

The row of pink Mirabilis has materialised. They are flowering prettily and non-stop too. When I stand outside the CG and see the pinkies through the green fence, there is a sense of satisfaction.

I remember someone told me that the local Mirabilis grown in Singapore has no fragrance.
As the Mirabilis in the CG are flowering profusely and also seeding quite a lot too, I decided to gather the seeds to give away to visitors to my CG. I had to pluck out the seeds and literally put my nose into the flowering plants. I noticed a very nice and light fragrance that is coming from the flowers near my face. I can definitely confirm that the Mirabilis I have in the CG gives off a fragrance .... light and fresh!

Here's another view of the Mirabilis photo taken during the cooler hours of the day at about
6 pm. More flowers were opened fully this time round and the sight was so pretty. I've planted them at each corner of seven planter beds. They will look a pretty sight when the flowers all open together in a row.
