Taiwanese Mulberry Fruits

Finally had the chance to harvest some to eat .... LOL They are huge and almost my thumb size for the largest berry seen here. The black one tasted not sour but not too sweet at the moment.

Taiwanese Mulberry Update

After about one and a half years of growing in the ground the tree has fruited a couple of times. The fruits seem a little larger than the old mulberry tree in the CG. Now I can share the cuttings with others. Please refer to the GCS forum under give away section regarding request for cuttings. Cuttings are available for a limited time only.

Please do not request for them here.

Taiwanese Mulberry Stem Cuttings

My neighbour got a call from her friend to go to the CG in the night. Her friend had just returned from a Taiwan holiday and gave her three thick Mulberry stem cuttings. So in the darkness of the night in the CG she planted these stem cuttings. She smsed me about them.

These stem cuttings are huge .... about three to four cm in diameter. She said the mulberry trees from where these stem cuttings came from gave our huge berries. Oh yes, I really hope so too.
I can see green leaves coming out from the stem cuttings. Root well cuttings and I will give you a better place in the CG to grow permanently :-)

Mulberry in the Planter Bed

When I first pruned the mother mulberry I planted about ten cuttings in this planter bed. Along the way only these four cuttings managed to survive. About a month back the two smaller cuttings actually got fried one hot afternoon. I left them alone and some how they are survivors. New leaves began to grow again. I've been trimming them once in a while .... wanna make sure they don't grow too large here. No flowers nor fruits yet ......

Mulberry Bush Pruned!

Hoping to grow bigger mulberry fruits, my neighbour and I trimmed and pruned the seven feet tall fella to three feet tall and almost botak the bush. That was about a week ago and now the branches are already forming new leaves. I planted some of the cuttings in the CG and gave some away to interested GCS members who wanted to plant the cuttings. Now we wait to see more leaves and flowers and hopefully bigger fruits.

Mulberry Bush

I have this Mulberry bush growing in the CG for about a year and it has been trimmed many, many times. I have yet to see it fruiting and it just happily continue producing more leaves and branches. During one of the pruning session, I planted some stem cuttings in the planter bed and even gave a friend some cuttings to plant in a pot. I got news that one of her stem cutting was producing some fruit. I learned that she fertilises the plant cuttings once a week. I guess I will be doing the same with those in the CG.
Out of the ten cuttings I planted, five of the stem cuttings rooted and produced new leaves. However during the last week of hot weather two of the cuttings got fried and they are gonnas.
Let me try putting in more fertilizers for the next couple of weeks to see how they grow.

Update 24/03/09

These were the tiny weeny fruits(size of the french bean seed) from the tree. I guess they must be the first fruits cos' I heard from my neighbour that the tree has never fruited before.
I got on the the GCS forum to find out how to get larger fruits. I discovered that pruning the tree would help the tree to fruit and also get larger fruits. Now I will make a prunning date with the mother mulberry tree.
