Red and Green Long Beans

I have learned to eat long beans by chopping them up and then frying them into an omellette.
So I dreamt about planting them in the CG. I went to Golden Mile Complex and got myself a bunch of red long beans. I reserved three strings to allow them to age to get the seeds for planting, gave some to my neighbour and cooked the rest. I also bought a packet of green long beans and did the same.
I learned that I need to allow the beans to age in the pods for about a week, then dehydrate them by leaving the seeds in the open for a couple of days before soaking them and then planting them in the soil. This will allow more success rate in their germination. If I plant the beans straight from the pod, most of the beans tend to rot away in the moist and wet medium.
So here I managed to have a couple of both types of beans growing at this trellis that I have built into the planter bed. They are getting bushier by the day. Stay tuned for updates.

Olive Trees in the Garden of Gethsemane

December 2008 ..... I had the once in a life time chance to visit Israel. So the tour took us to the Garden of Gethsemane on Mt. Olives. In this plot of land stands the last eight Olive Trees aged over two thousand years old. No chance to walk through this garden though. Only allowed a moment of time to peer through the iron fence to have a glimpse of them. Imagine JC sitting under one of them during his last moments before his betrayal ..... a silent prayer was said.

Here's more about Olive Trees ....

White Brinjal

Another member is growing this in the CG and they have produced pretty lilac flowers. Now I can't wait to see the fruits even though I have never tasted or eaten them before. It's so exciting to see fruits grow from these lilac flowers :-)

Capsicum Pepper

Another member growing this in the CG. I found lots of ants crawling up and down the stalks one evening and drenched it with the organic insecticide I made. The plant survived the drenching and now I wait to see the fruits forming.

Grosse Lisse Tomato

I got the seeds from a member in GCS and they germinated. I planted six seedlings in the CG and they seem pretty slow growing at the moment. I do see that the stems are fattening up so I guess that they are getting enough sun. I read that basils make good companion plants for the tomatoes. Together they seem to grow very well. So I planted some Thai basils between the rows. Hopefully they will root well and grow together with the tomatoes.
