Giant Agaves In Cameron Highlands

During the March holidays 2012 my family and I went up to Cameron Highlands and saw these giant agaves growing by the roadside along the main road in Brinchang Town. Out of these four giants, two of them were flowering and one of them had the mother plant deteriorating quite badly. I suspect these giants may be more than fifty years old.

Grapes In Hougang ?

I posted in FB about my discovery of some grape vines growing somewhere in Hougang and my friend S got so excited that she gathered the CGers to visit the site on a Friday morning. Yes, it was an exciting find cos' we didn't expect that grapes can grow this big in Singapore. The grape vine was identified as a wild relative of the grape plant. It's a Cayratia mollisima (Wall.)Gagnepain. My CGer picked up some of the fallen berries and tasted it and said it was sweet but it didn't taste like the grapes we eat. So now we have some seeds and my CGer will be trying to germinate and grow them. Wish her success and stay tune for updates.

Our Home .... AMK Town Council Publication

In the March/April 2012 issue we were featured together with the other Gold Award winners in the group. My friend's garden is also a winner and am so happy for him too. I remember when I started to volunteer in this CG , many a times I have exchanged and given plants to my friend here and he in return also passed me soil and plants and seeds.
As for the photo,  I would have prefered a group picture cos' many were involved in helping the garden win the award. Just wanna say Thank-You AMK Town Council for recognizing the efforts we community gardeners put in to make the gardens what  they are today.

CG Breakfast Club

Once in a while the CGers will get together to have breakfast in the garden. Here we share food from our harvest and pot luck too. It's a simple way to relax and chit chat about on goings in the garden.

The Community Garden Today Pt.2

In the Shaded Trellis we grow the Hoyas and the Nepenthes in the recycled Pet bottles. We hang the Nepenthes near the area where it can get more sun and the area where less sun shine we grow the Hoyas.

Inside the Shaded Trellis the area is pretty cool and humid and over here we grow the plants that love these conditions. Episcias, Ferns, Begonias, Caletheas and Cordylines love the condition here.
